HARRISBURG – Rep. Martina White (R-Philadelphia) today announced the 2017 winners of her “There Ought to Be a Law Contest” for elementary students.
“This is a great program that gives students the opportunity to share what they think are important measures that need to be passed into law,” said White. “It is exciting to learn about what they see as important issues and I was impressed with the amount of thought and talent that went into their projects.”
Judges for the contest were Judge Vincent Furlong, Court of Common Pleas, Family Division; Officer Joseph Staszak, community relations officer 7th Police District; and Lyn Truszkowski, community liaison for Friends Hospital.
Winners of the contest are as follows:
• Fourth Grade – Saint Anselm – Nicholas Shoemaker – Law Requiring a Background Check to Buy a Pet.
• Fourth Grade – Loesche Elementary– Jayden Davidson – Law Against Bullying.
• Fourth Grade – Saint Christopher – Fiona Kwok – Law Places Police Officers Outside to Ticket Parents Letting Their Kids Not Wear Seatbelts.
• Fifth Grade – Calvary Christian Academy – Lauren Ciseck – Law Making It More Affordable To Adopt Children from Foreign Countries.
• Fifth Grade – Saint Christopher – Grace Reteneller – Law Making 13-Years-Old the Age to Sit In the Front Seat of a Vehicle.
• Fifth Grade – Loesche Elementary – Mariam Gogliashuili – Law Banning Inappropriate Websites.
• Fifth Grade – Stephen Decatur – Nilo Morocho – Law to Ban All Drugs.
Each of the winners is invited up to the Capitol to have lunch with White.
