House lawmakers have voted to support a 2019-20 General Fund budget that continues a multi-year effort to hold the line on taxes, fees and spending. Total state spending would be set at $33.997 billion, a 1.8% increase over the current fiscal year, which is in line with the rate of inflation. The plan provides for a record level of spending on education and includes a deposit of more than $250 million into the Rainy-Day Fund, the state’s primary “savings account.” Rep. Martina White (R-Phila) offered the following comments on the budget legislation.

Legislation designed to prohibit “Sanctuary Cities” in the Commonwealth has been approved by the Pennsylvania House. Rep. Martina White (R-Philadelphia), sponsor of House Bill 1885, said her bill would require cooperation between local and federal law enforcement agencies, and ensure that individuals who have come to the country illegally and committed further crimes cannot find respite in communities in Pennsylvania.

Three pieces of legislation designed to address problems arising from an influx of illegal immigrants in Pennsylvania have been introduced in Harrisburg. Lawmakers introduced bills to tackle issues regarding sanctuary cities, employment, and public benefit distribution. Rep. Martina White (R-Philadelphia) is the prime sponsor of House Bill 1885, which would force municipalities that operate as “Sanctuary Cities” for illegal immigrants to take responsibility for illegals’ criminal actions.
