State Grants Awarded for Social Services, White Says

HARRISBURG – Almost $2 million in grants awarded today will support a pair of organizations helping vulnerable populations in Northeast Philadelphia, according to Rep. Martina White (R-Philadelphia).

Caring for Friends will use a Local Share Account (LSA) grant to expand its current administrative offices and warehouse to better accommodate food that needs to be refrigerated. The $1 million will support efforts to lessen food insecurity.

Special People in Northeast Inc. (SPIN) was awarded $917,450 to purchase and install generators at its facilities. The funding will support specialized residential care for the elderly and Philadelphians with disabilities.

“The grants awarded today empower our community to take meaningful steps forward.” White said. “These investments reflect our commitment to supporting trusted organizations that lift up neighbors in need. I appreciated the opportunity to advocate for this important funding.”

LSA grants are funded by state gaming revenue, not taxpayer dollars. The funding was approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA). This is an independent agency that holds fiduciary responsibility over the funding of programs and investments in Pennsylvania’s economic growth.
