Nearly $1.8 Million in Grant Funding Awarded within Northeast Philadelphia, Lawmakers Say
December 18, 2025
PHILADELPHIA – Nearly $1.8 million in grant funding awarded today includes a project to improve public safety at the Community College of Philadelphia, according to Rep. Martina White (R-Philadelphia) and Sen. Joe Picozzi (R-Philadelphia).
The Commonwealth Financing Authority approved grants for five projects in the 170th House District. They are:
• Northeast Philadelphia Swim Coaches Association, $190,000 to replace a heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) system in Alberta Morris Natatorium.
• Trustees of Byberry Monthly Meeting of Friends, $50,000 for renovations at the abolition debate hall.
• Caring for Friends, $650,000 to install an HVAC system in its warehouse.
• Community College of Philadelphia Foundation, $650,000 to make security upgrades on the campus.
• Philadelphia Soccer Club, $250,000 to replace turf on a soccer field.
The initiatives will be funded by the Local Share Account (LSA), which generates its revenue from statewide gaming, not tax dollars.
“I advocated for these worthwhile projects because they help organizations doing incredible work in our own neighborhoods. LSA grants ease the burden on donors and volunteers whose resources are already stretched thin,” White said.
“I was happy to help secure this funding to assist organizations who do so much for Northeast Philadelphia residents. These grants will allow them to upgrade their operations and focus more on their missions,” Picozzi said.
