White: The Solution is Prosecution, Not Gun Confiscation
HARRISBURG – Rep. Martina White (R-Philadelphia) released the following statement about the recent police shootings in Philadelphia:
“Over the past few days Philadelphia made national news when six police officers were shot and injured. Thankfully all survived.
“Our police commissioner and the entire Philadelphia Police Department acted with extraordinary bravery.
“But while our officers were taking gunfire and during the days that followed, progressive politicians at the local, state and federal levels exploited this situation to satisfy their political agenda and satisfy special interests demanding gun confiscation.
“The laws we pass in Harrisburg are only effective when they are enforced, and lawbreakers are prosecuted.
“Sadly, there will always be criminals who ignore our laws like the accused shooter Maurice Hill – a serial offender and a felon - who never should have been on our streets.
“I will be advocating to give our officers more resources to enforce ours laws and for harsher penalties for those who attempt to harm our officers.
“We also need accountability for district attorneys who endanger communities by refusing to prosecute criminals to the fullest extent of the law. Right now, they have unchecked discretion to give criminals deals that jeopardize the safety of law-abiding citizens.
“Thank you to our officers who serve to protect us. I stand with you.”
